deviantART Logo – deviantART (also known as dA for short) is a website that brings together an international community of artists in the network. The site has its own mascot, a sort of robotic cat named Fella, which sometimes tends to be the official spokesperson for the news in the community.
Space is virtual, in which each user can show their art and take advantage of network capabilities for submission to the comments and criticisms from anyone, especially other artists. DeviantART is open to many types of artists, but mainly related to the visual arts and graphics, as photographers, graphic designers, artists pixel, or painters, but there are literary works or fanfiction, films, skins for programs or pages, flash content, crafts, etc.. The site has a dynamic range of categories to sort the works that are uploaded daily, first organized in different branches of art and as the means by which they were created (traditional, digital), followed by more specific subcategories. The website is also enabled to subscribers.
This website was born on August 7 of 2000 by three engineers: Scott Jarkoff, Angelo Sotira and Matthew Stephens DeviantArt was originally developed as part of the project DMusic, as a site to accommodate changes in the graphic appearance (skins) of Winamp, and bringing together different artists who would be responsible for providing a DMusic skins, but quickly spread to other types of creations, especially graphics. Currently the CEO is Angelo Sotira, and is owned deviantART deviantART, Inc.
It is estimated that this site has about 1.5 million comments a day. In May of 2007, the website had approximately 4.5 million users and 50 million creations, receiving a total of 60,000 daily creations. According to some older magazine from Time in 2006 deviantART received in October 2006, 50,000 new creations daily and had 3.5 million registered users. In August 2008 it was estimated that there were approximately 8,000,000 members.
