Philippine Airlines (PAL) has selected IBS Software's cloud-based iCargo platform to replace its current cargo system, with the implementation intended to extend the software across the carrier's domestic and international cargo operations.
IBS Software said the work would support PAL's modernisation programme with capabilities covering the airline's full range of business functions. For international traffic, iCargo is designed to handle customs reporting, the settlement of duties and taxes, and regulatory compliance, alongside the requirements of domestic cargo movement.
According to the vendor, the platform already serves carriers carrying a comparable mix of domestic and international demands, and is built to provide the flexibility and scale needed to manage both.
Operational aims
PAL expects the transition to address key operational requirements in its cargo business, including system performance and data analytics. IBS Software said the platform would support faster shipment processing, greater reliability and end-to-end shipment visibility while reducing manual intervention and enabling more efficient processes.
The announcement did not set out an implementation timetable, contract value or details of how the transition between systems will be managed.
Airline's rationale
Jason Siy, vice president for cargo business at Philippine Airlines, described the initiative as an important step in the modernisation of the carrier's cargo business. He said that as the airline grows across its domestic and international network, it needs a system that increases visibility, improves operational efficiency and supports a better customer experience.
Siy added that the airline sees iCargo as a key enabler of its long-term cargo transformation strategy and of its ambition to build a stronger cargo business. The announcement did not quantify expected gains in volume, revenue or processing times.
