Geox Logo — Geox is a brand Italian shoes breathable and resistant to liquids. The company was founded in the 1990’s by Mario Moretti Polegato. The brand name comes from the union of the Greek geo (earth, we walk), and x, a letter-element symbolizing technology.
On a trip to Reno, Nevada (USA) to promote the wines produced by his family in a wine industry conference, Mario Moretti Polegato decided to go take a hike. With discomfort caused by the overheating of your feet caused by his rubber-soled shoes I was wearing, he instinctively pierced the soles with a knife. In doing so found a simple and effective way to release excess heat from their shoes. On his return, Moretti Polegato developed his intuitive idea in a small shop of a shoe company of his family and developed a new technology for rubber soles. Immediately patented it and created the first “breathable shoe”.
Having unsuccessfully offered his invention to footwear companies with good positioning — and after they successfully complete their own market research with kids footwear range — Moretti Polegato took the first step and began mass production of shoes under the brand Geox. The Geox brand name is a combination of the word “GEO” (Greek for “earth”) and the letter “X” (the letter / element symbolizing technology). The origin of the name highlights the vocation Geox and the DNA of a company born from a revolutionary idea that has made the comfort, convenience and innovation the “ought” corporate. In the following years Moretti Polegato original patent improved and extended its product range to adult footwear.
The Group is mainly active in the production and marketing in the price range of medium to medium / high, shoes (94% of net sales in 2006) and clothing (6% of net sales). In 2006, the Geox Group sold approximately 16 million pairs of shoes. The Group’s innovative idea Geox is to pierce the soles of the shoes allowing feet to breathe. The Group’s business comes from the profits of patents both domestically and internationally. Research in the field of technological innovation has a key role in the development of Geox products and aims at the unification of comfort and style in line with the latest trends. Positioning “across-market” products (through the market) in terms of age and gender of clients, makes Geox a familiar brand that is quite unique in the Italian market.
In fact, the Geox Group creates three different types of products identified according to the final consumer products for children, men and women. The three types of products are divided into three areas. Based on the success of the Group’s footwear products, the Company has begun to implement its technology solution for the development of clothing that breathes.
