NHL Logo — The National Hockey League or NHL is a professional league American of ice hockey, clubs formed by the United States and Canada. This league was officially founded on November 26 of 1917 in Montreal (Canada), from four teams from a previous championship created in 1909, the National Hockey Association. Originally all clubs were Canadians, until in 1924 expanded to America.
The championship participants has increased over time, and now includes 30 franchises. Of these, seven are located in Canada and 23 in the United States. The champ wins the final Stanley Cup, the oldest professional sports trophy in North America. The NHL is considered by the Federation International Hockey League as the world’s largest in their sport. It is also one of the four major league sports that exist in North America, along with the NBA (basketball), the NFL (football) and MLB (baseball).
