This is the only current franchise founders of the NFL club which was founded in 1919, the Cardinals back to the year 1898, long before the league before it. Early in its history in the NFL, the Cardinals played originally in the city of Chicago under the name Chicago Cardinals. Due to lack of players for the World War II in 1944 merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers to be called the Card-Pitt, after the war the merger was dissolved. Later they moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1960, changing the name to St. Louis Cardinals. In 1988 he again moved to Phoenix, Arizona, with a new name, the Phoenix Cardinals, eventually moving to Glendale, Arizona in 1994 with the corresponding current name of the Arizona Cardinals.
Until the season 2008 was one of the 6 teams in the NFL who had never reached the Super Bowl (the other five were the Cleveland Browns, the Detroit Lions, the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints, who won the Super Bowl XLIV in 2009). But on 18 January 2009 got their place in their first Super Bowl by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in the championship game of the NFC for the 2008 season, so the franchise broke that streak. In the Super Bowl XLIII were defeated 27-23 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
