BBC Logo – The British Broadcasting Corporation (British Broadcasting Corporation), better known as the BBC is public service media in the UK. Headquartered in the Broadcasting House in Westminster, London. It is the largest media group in the world with about 23,000 employees. Its functions are to television and radio broadcast publicly in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands. It is an autonomous public body and set in 1922 by a Royal Decree which guarantees its independence from political and commercial control.

In the United Kingdom is financed by a TV license paid by each household, company and organization where there is any equipment capable of receiving and / or record radio and television. The price of this license is set annually by the British Government and agreed in Parliament. In 2010 the price per household was £ 145.50.

Outside the UK operates under the callsign of BBC World Service and its work is to broadcast radio and television all products and more recently, online. Despite sharing esctructuras, especially the news service, the World Service operates independently and has an Executive Director itself. It is financed mainly by public funds from the British government, regardless of funding from the television license.

The other source of funding for the Corporation are using their commercial subsidiaries, BBC Worldwide Ltd. (selling programs and formats, publishing magazines and books) and for the rental of their television studios, organized in the subsidiary BBC Studios and Post Production Ltd. (formerly BBC Resources Ltd.).
