Coventry University Logo — The Coventry University is a university town located in the British of Coventry. Originally called Polytechnic Coventry (Coventry Polytechnic), was renamed after the current Higher Education Act of 1992 (Further and highter Education Act of 1992). However, its origins date back to 1843 with the School of Design in Coventry (Coventry College of Design). Since then the institution has undergone many changes and the university has made great strides in its development as an institution, particularly in the last ten years.
The main campus, expanding, is located in the east of Coventry city center and boasts one of the most innovative libraries in the UK university with a unique-looking building. The university emphasizes particularly its renowned courses in engineering and automotive design and for providing the first program in Disaster Management in the UK.
Coventry University has a long tradition as an institution educational . Its roots go back to 1943 and the Coventry School of Design. It was in 1970 when the School of Art Coventry (Coventry College of Art) merged with the School of Technology Lanchester (Lanchester College of Technology) and the College of Engineering Technology Rugby (Rugby College of Engineering Technology). The resulting institution was called Lanchester Polytechnic in honor of the pioneering nature of the automotive industry Midlands, Frederick Lanchester. In 1987 he changed his name to Coventry Polytechnic and in 1992 adopted the name of Coventry University.
The logo of the university represents a phoenix, a bird mythological with splendid plumage that supposedly lives in the Arabian desert. His character legend is due to be unique in its kind since he lived for five or six centuries, after which he burned himself to death at a funeral pyre of aromatic twigs ignited by the sun and fanned by its own wings. Rose from the ashes with renewed youth to live for another cycle. This symbol is a reminder of how appropriate that the city of Coventry self-rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II. It is a symbol with which Coventry University is proud to be associated and have adopted it as their own.
In the summer of 2006 the symbol was flipped on its vertical axis to portray the phoenix head facing right. The reason for this decision was the desire to portray the university facing forward instead of backwards. Almost all signs on campus buildings were removed and replaced with new stainless steel models in which the phoenix looked to the right. We can find the previous design of the logo on the facade of Alan Berry, because its reproduction precedes the review of the logo.
