ICQ Logo — ICQ ( “I seek you” in Castilian seek you ) is an instant messaging client and the first of its kind to be widely used in Internet , through which you can chat and send instant messages to other users connected to the network ICQ. It also allows sending files, video and voice chat. ICQ was created by the company Israeli Mirabilis in late 1990. On June 8, 1998 the company was acquired by AOL for $ 407 million. Today ICQ is used by over 38 million users worldwide. According to Time Warner , ICQ has over 50 million registered accounts.

The communications protocol used by ICQ is known as OSCAR , also used by AIM . The ICQ network users are identified by a number which is assigned when registering a new user, called UIN ( “Universal Internet Number” or “universal number of Internet”). Due to the large number of users of ICQ, the most recent user IDs are above the number 100,000,000. In some cases, the numbers simple and easy to remember are sold on Internet auction or kidnapped by other users.
