The first offices of Ladbrokes in London were situated in the Strand, later moving to Hanover Square. During this time and until the acquisition of the company by Mark Stein and his nephew Cyril Stein in 1956, Ladbrokes customers was based exclusively on the British aristocracy and upper-class Londoners. By then, the company was going through a good time, since after the Second World War began a decline prompted by the economic and social situation of the time.
This changed after 1961 when the British government passed the betting. In 1993, at the age of 65, Cyril Stein retired as president and in 1999 the company acquired the Stakis hotel chain, renamed Hilton Group plc.
