Muse Logo — Muse is a band English of alternative rock originally from Teignmouth, Devon. Its members since its formation in the decade of the 90 are: Matthew Bellamy (composer, voice, guitar, keyboard and piano), Dominic Howard (drums and percussion) and Christopher Wolstenholme (bass guitar, keyboards and vocals). After the release of their fourth album, Morgan Nicholls began collaborating with the band during live performances, taking charge of keyboards, samples, some vocals, bass and rarely lately the second guitar.
The band is known for their extravagant live shows (often considered as ‘the best in the world’), for fusing musical genres like space rock, progressive rock, heavy metal, classical music and electronics in his style of alternative rock, and the eccentric interests of Matthew Bellamy on the global conspiracy, the revolution, the astrophysics, extraterrestrial life, the ghosts, the theology and the apocalypse, issues that are reflected in his lyrics. In 2011 the band won their first Grammy Award, winning in the category Best Rock Album for The Resistance.
The members of Muse played in different bands during his stay at Teignmouth Community College and Coombeshead College in early 1990. The formation of Muse began when Bellamy auditioned to be the guitarist of the band of Dominic Howard. Later, after several changes in the band (vocalist output and other members) asked Chris Wolstenholme (who played drums at that time with Fixed Penalty) to learn to play bass to join them. Wolstenholme agreed and took lessons.
The group had several names before Muse, as Gothic Plague, or even Rocket Baby Dolls, but it was under its current name with which in 1994 and an image goth / glam, the band won a competition for local bands, destroying their equipment the process. “It was supposed to be a protest, a statement”, Bellamy said, “so when you really win, it was a real shock. A huge shock. After that we started to get serious about ourselves.” Soon after, the three decided to forego university, quit their jobs, change the name of the band Muse (1994-1995), and move away from Teignmouth.
