Sony Ericsson Logo — Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (abbreviated SEMC) was a joint venture (JV) company formed by the Swedish Ericsson company and Japanese Sony, dedicated to the manufacture of mobile phones and accessories.
The company was founded in 2001 from Ericsson, one of the leading companies in telecommunications, and Sony one of the leading companies in consumer electronics. Both companies have equal shares in Sony Ericsson. The first joint product from Sony Ericsson was put on the market in March 2002 and since then the new company has taken more market share.
The company employs about 8000 people at headquarters in London (United Kingdom), with offices in Lund and Kista (Sweden), Tokyo (Japan), Beijing (People’s Republic of China), Manchester (United Kingdom) and Research Triangle Park in North Carolina (United States). In the offices of Lund research focuses and employs about half of the employees.
