The Pistons were founded in 1941, playing first in the NBL until its entry into the NBA in 1948. Until 1957, the team played in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Among the successes of the franchise are two NBL championships and three NBA, two of them consecutive in 1989 and 1990, and the third in 2004. We also have 7 conference titles and 15 division (4 of them belong to the NBL). They play their home games at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The franchise was founded under the name of Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, a team from the NBL who played for North Side High School Gym in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Zollner Corporation, owned by Fred Zollner was a factory which manufactured pistons primarily for cars and trucks. In 1948 , the team became the Fort Wayne Pistons, competing in the BAA. Zollner got the NBL and BAA to join and form the NBA. Since then, the Pistons began play in the NBA. Led by their star George Yardley, Fort Wayne Pistons was a very popular franchise in the league and reached the Finals in 1954 and 1955, losing both. More
