FC Schalke 04 Logo — The FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 eV, known simply as Schalke 04, is a football club from the city Germany in Gelsenkirchen, in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded on May 4 of 1904 and plays in the Bundesliga. The club also offers other activities among which are basketball, handball and athletics.
Schalke 04 won the most European trophy in 1997 beating Inter Milan on penalty kicks for the UEFA Cup (now known as UEFA Europa League). Pope John Paul II became an honorary member of the club in 1987 after holding the Parkstadion. Schalke has a long rivalry with Borussia Dortmund and has a friendly relationship with the FC Nuremberg.
