International Paper is the second largest manufacturer of packaging materials in the world and the largest owner of land for timber harvesting in the United States. The company employs approx. 83,000 employees. International Paper was established in 1898 resulting from the merger of 17 paper and paperboard mills in the northeastern United States.
International Paper acquired the company in 1986 HammerMill Paper Company and in 1988 the firm Masonite Corporation . In 1989 it acquired the German company Zanders Feinpapiere and French paper Aussedat King. In addition, International Paper has a stake in the Chilean oil company Copec. International Paper is the world’s largest manufacturer of cutlery and plastic cups for fast food restaurants McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Subway.
