Oxford University Logo — The University of Oxford, located in the city of Oxford, United Kingdom, is the university’s oldest English-speaking world. Unknown date of foundation of the university, and perhaps did not exist as a particular event, but there is evidence of teaching activities since 1096. When Henry II of England forbade students English assistance to schools of higher learning in Paris, in the year 1167, Oxford began to grow rapidly.

The foundation of the first residence halls, which then transmuted into the colleges, dates from this time forward.
