Pittsburgh Penguins Logo — Pittsburgh Penguins is a team of professional ice hockey located in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (United States). He currently plays in the National Hockey League, framed in the Atlantic Division. The club was founded in 1967 as one of the first six expansion franchises in the NHL after the era Original Six, and did not win a title until the season 1990/91, when a staff led by the player Mario Lemieux and others like Jaromir Jagr and Paul Coffey led Pittsburgh to its first Stanley Cup history. Penguins renewed its national championship in 1991/92, and during the 1990’s became one of the powers of ice hockey in the United States.
Early in the year 2000 the team went through a severe economic crisis that threatened his continuity in Pittsburgh. To exit from this situation, the team was bought by a group of local investors led by Lemieux, who became the first player-owner of a franchise in NHL history.
