The North Face Logo — The North Face, Inc. is a company specializing in clothing, fleece, footwear, and equipment. Clothing and Equipment specializes in the lines of climbers, hikers, skiers, snowboarders, hikers, endurance athletes and everyday use. The clothing line is known for its use in climbing expeditions on Mount Everest and other outdoor activities such as fashion and clothing.
The North Face was founded in 1968 in San Francisco, California, when Douglas Tompkins and Dick “Hap” Klopp created an equipment store that eventually acquired the current name “The North Face”. This name was chosen by the north side of a mountain in the northern hemisphere is the steepest, coldest and most difficult to climb. In 1980, skiwear was added to the product line, and eventually camping equipment was also added. The North Face is now a wholly owned subsidiary of VF Corporation.
Today, The North Face is based in San Leandro, California, near its corporate sibling, JanSport is the largest manufacturer of backpacks in the world. Together, JanSport and The North Face made about half of all small backpacks sold in the United States. The North Face logo is easily recognizable, is a quarter circle with two lines running within it. This image is an interpretation of the famous Half Dome rock formation in Yosemite National Park. Adjacent to the symbol are the words THE NORTH FACE embroidered in large block letters. The product range includes The North Face clothing, footwear , backpacks , tents and sleeping bags.
