Electrolux Logo — Founded in 1910 under the name AB Elektromekaniska and after its merger with Lux AB in 1919, Electrolux is a Swedish world leader in the appliance. The group sells each year, in over 150 countries, 40 million products for household and professional through to brands like Electrolux, AEG -Electrolux, Zanussi, Eureka, Arthur Martin and Frigidaire.
In 2009, Electrolux employs 51,000 people for a turnover of over 109 billion SEK. The group has 22 production plants in Europe and occupies 28% of the global household appliances. Its main competitor is the American Whirlpool. Electrolux was founded in 1910 under the name of Elektromekaniska AB and took the name to Elektrolux after merging with Lux in 1919. The name was spelled Electrolux from 1957. The company became a holding company in 1928 and, under the direction of Hans Werthen, Electrolux grew rapidly during the 1970s.
In North America, the Electrolux name has long been used by a manufacturer of vacuum cleaners. This company was first associated with the Swedish parent company, but was sold to a U.S. shareholder in the year 1960. Since then, American society has surrendered its rights to the brand in North America at Electrolux Group and now uses the name Aerus LLC. After the return of its brand, Electrolux began selling his own household goods to the United States and Canada under the name Electrolux of Sweden.
This is the redemption of his Italian rival and the first European manufacturer of home appliances, the group Zanussi SpA in 1984, which will take the Electrolux group in a watershed propelling it amongst the world leaders. Electrolux has 22 factories in Europe and occupies 28% of the global household appliances.
