It is the bank’s parent virtual bank ING Direct , which operates in Australia, Canada, the USA, UK, Spain and elsewhere. In 2007 was one of the 20 largest institutions in the world in terms of market capitalization and according to the Global 500 of Fortune magazine, the seventh largest company in the world.

However, the group has been hard hit by the crisis, and in November 2009 announced that, in a process that should culminate in 2013, held its divisions of insurance, investment and some additional assets into a smaller institution and focused on the European market. 1 , assets of the company in Latin America were purchased by the Group Sura of Colombia , acquiring the company’s operations in Colombia , Mexico , Chile , Peru and Uruguay valued at U.S. $ 3,614 million. ING’s headquarters is in Amsterdam and is popularly known as a stand-alone building .
