Missoni Logo — Missoni is an Italian company specializing in fashion, based in Varese. This house is famous for its single mesh, colors and colorful prints, floral and fruity. The company was founded by former athlete Ottavio Missoni (it) and his wife Rosita Jelmini in 1953.
The foundation of the brand is the result of the encounter between Ottavio and Rosita Missoni Jelmini. After World War II, Missoni has opened a workshop in collaboration with his friend George Oberweger to produce sportswear wool. Its inception, the costume “Venjulia” was chosen by the Italian team during the 1948 Olympics in London, during which Ottavio Missoni has also participated as an athlete. It was on this occasion he met Rosita Jelmini Missano Octavius, came from a family of tailors Golasecca in the province of Varese.
The two married in April 1953 and opened a small workshop knit in Gallarate, near the town of Rosita. In 1958, they have to Milan their first collection, called “Milan-Sympathy”. The successful company and has the support of Anna Piaggi, editor of the journal di Arianna Mondadori.
On a trip to New York in 1965, Rosita met the French stylist Emmanuelle Khanh and collaboration between the two marks and a new fashion collection the following year results. Their fame was assured in 1967 when their founders Missoni were invited to show their creations at the Pitti Palace in Florence. Rosita asked the models to remove their bras, supposedly because they were the wrong color and could be seen through their blouses lame end. During the parade, with light and spots, the clothes have become transparent and the organizers were shocked (they have not invited back the following year the creators). The company continues to thrive and build a new plant in SUMIRAGO in 1969. With their acclaimed designs to the U.S. by Diana Vreeland, editor of the magazine Vogue, they opened their first shop on American soil, at Bloomingdales. The cottage industry of early became an international empire.
