In 1921 on March 15 the rider Emanuele Vittorio Parodi, his son George, and the latter a friend of Carlo Guzzi based in Genoa, home office, with production in Mandello Tonzanico (later became Mandello del Lario), a village on Lake Como, in the province of Lecco, the “Società Anonima Moto Guzzi”. The logo chosen is the eagle, the symbol of ‘the Army Air Force in World War I, in honor of the third partner, the rider Giovanni Ravelli, who fell in war with his plane.
The first motorcycle, the GP (Guzzi-Parodi), is built as a prototype in the workshop of the mechanical engines Giorgio Ripamonti, Carlo Guzzi, where he learned the rudiments of mechanics and was fascinated by the two wheels. The name “GP” is dropped immediately and transformed, with the unanimous consent of all shareholders, in Moto Guzzi, also to avoid misunderstandings with the initials Guzzi-Parodi only with those of Giorgio Parodi. In a slightly modified form (two valves instead of four) in order to reduce production costs, since the year of the foundation being built 17 motorcycles as a template Normal. The new bikes have already, as the factory emblem, an eagle with outstretched wings, choice in memory of his friend Giovanni Ravelli, who died in a plane crash. The Standard had a power equal to 8 hp and traveled to the remarkable speed for a motorcycle of the period of 80 km / h. Already this first model brought something new in the motorcycle (the advanced features have never left the Moto Guzzi in its entire history) being the first movement of history with its center stand.
