New Orleans Hornets Logo — New Orleans Hornets is a professional franchise basketball of the NBA based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Due to the damage that caused Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, had to change his residence in the 2005-06 season in Oklahoma City. For the 2007-08 season they returned to New Orleans. The team began in Charlotte, after the expansion of 1988, and moved to New Orleans in 2002. The Hornets have only managed a title in its history, the division in 2008. Dispute their home games at the New Orleans Arena and play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.
In 1985, the NBA announced plans to expand to four teams. George Shinn, a businessman from Charlotte, North Carolina, announced the project to bring an NBA team the Charlotte area, bringing together a group of local entrepreneurs to lead the new franchise. Charlotte stood in college basketball, with Charlotte 49ers and Davidson Wildcats, and was also one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Formerly also included Carolina Cougars, team American Basketball Association from 1969 until 1974.
In the 2007-08 season, things changed strongly in the Hornets. They signed the free agent Morris Peterson and Melvin Ely, and let them go to Cedric Simmons. In addition, extended the contract based Jannero Pargo and selected first-round draft pick to Julian Wright of the University of Kansas. Some Hornets healthier than previous seasons achieved a balance of mid-season 29-12. On February 3 of 2008 had the best record in the Western Conference, so Byron Scott immediately became the coach of the West in the All-Star Game, 2008 in New Orleans just played. Along with Scott, David West and Chris Paul were selected as players these reserves, and Stojakovic participated in the Three-Point Shootout. On 21 February, the Hornets transferred to the veteran based Bobby Jackson to Houston Rockets in exchange for Bonzi Wells and Mike James.
The Hornets finished the regular season second conference with a 56-26 record, completing the most successful campaign in its history, leaving behind the 54 victories in 1996-97 under the name of Charlotte Hornets. Also won their first division title, beating San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest Division. The title was awarded after winning a Los Angeles Clippers on April 15 in the penultimate game of the regular season. In playoffs they faced the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, beating them in five games. In his playoff debut, Paul became the first player in NBA history to achieve at least 30 points and 10 assists in his first two games postseason. In Conference Semifinals (the first of their history) were rivals Spurs ahead in the series 2-0 but then lost four of the following five games. Chris Paul finished second in voting for the MVP of the season, second only to by Kobe Bryant, and Scott was named NBA Coach of the Year.
