The company was founded in 1987 under the name of McAfee Associates, named after its founder John McAfee. In 1997, following the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General , the name was replaced by Network Associates. In 2004 the company underwent a profound restructuring. During the spring of that year, the subsidiary was sold to Magic Remedy Solutions, a subsidiary ofBMC Software .
