New England Patriots Logo — The New England Patriots are a professional team of football based in Foxborough, Massachusetts. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Originally called Boston Patriots, the team owners changed the name to be relocated to Foxborough in 1971.
After its founding in 1959 as an original member of the American Football League, the Patriots joined the NFL in the creation of the league in 1970. The team reached the playoffs four times before his first appearance in a Super Bowl : missed from 86 and 97. Between 2001 and 2004, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history, after the Dallas Cowboys, to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX). The Patriots are also the seventh team in NFL history to win two consecutive Super Bowl (XXXVIII and XXXIX).
On November 16th of 1959, the Executive Boston William H. “Billy” Sullivan Jr. was awarded the eighth and final franchise of the American Football League, still in development. The following winter, residents were allowed to give ideas for the official name of the football team in Boston. The most popular option chosen by Sullivan and was “Boston Patriots” (Boston Patriots), which was derived from the historical patriots of the War of Independence of the United States. Phil Bissell developed the logo of “Pat Patriot” and Lou Saban was selected as the head coach of the Patriots.
