Seattle Seahawks Logo — The Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Seahawks are a professional team of football based in Seattle, Washington. Currently participating in the Western Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, joined the NFL in 1976, both as expansion teams. Seattle is currently the only team that has played competitive games in the NFC and the AFC. The Seahawks have played a Super Bowl, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL in 2006.

On June 15, 1972, Seattle Professional Football Inc., a business group of Seattle, and community leaders announced their intention to acquire a franchise in the NFL for the city of Seattle. Almost two years later, on June 4, 1974, the NFL gave the group an expansion franchise, and the December 5, 1974, the NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle announced the official signing of the franchise agreement by Lloyd W. Nordstrom, representing the Nordstrom family as majority partners in the consortium.
