The NBA or National Basketball Association (National Basketball Association) is the major league American in basketball training. The NBA was founded in New York on June 6th of 1946 as the Basketball Association of America . It adopted its current name in 1949 , after joining several clubs from the former National Basketball League . The opening match was a New York Knicks — Toronto Huskies , on November 1st of 1946 with the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto as a backdrop. The match was watched by 7090 spectators. The league official has offices located in the Olympic Tower on Fifth Avenue 645 from New York . Studies of the NBA Entertainment and NBA TV are located in Secaucus , New Jersey .

The Basketball Association of America was founded in 1946 by owners of major sports arenas in the Northeast and Midwest, including Madison Square Garden in New York . The 11 teams that opened the curtain in the inaugural season was 1946-47 Boston Celtics , Philadelphia Warriors , New York Knicks , Washington Capitols , Providence Steamrollers , Toronto Huskies , Chicago Stags , St. Louis Bombers , Cleveland Rebels , Detroit Falcons and Pittsburgh Ironmen . Only 3 teams have endured to this day: Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors. Of these three teams, only two of them have moved out of town, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. The Warriors were born in Philadelphia in 1962 moved to San Francisco and in 1971 move to Oakland. Although there had been before other professional basketball leagues, including the American Basketball League and National Basketball League, the BAA was the first league to attempt to play primarily in large wards of major cities. During those years the level of the BAA was not obviously still better than the other leagues, and equipment could be compared with independent clubs such as the Harlem Globetrotters. For example, Baltimore Bullets , finalist of the ABL in 1947 , moved to the BAA and won the title in 1948 , followed by Minneapolis Lakers , who won the NBL in 1948 and the following year in the BAA.
