Dogpile began in November 1996 , being part of the network Go2Net in 1999 , which was acquired by InfoSpace , a company that also owned Metacrawler , Webcrawler and Excite .

In 2005 , Dogpile released a study about each search engine returns results. The study showed that there is a 3% redundancy between Google, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves. 85% of the results were unique to one of the search engines.
