With a 18x24mm format, was one of the most compact cameras and notebooks of his time. The group PEN system design was led by Yoshihisa Maitani.
In the same spirit, the same team created the revolutionary OM, a professional system based on 35mm “full frame” designed to compete with the best selling Nikon and Canon . The OM system came to be 14 different camera bodies and 60 goals, held lenses Zuiko , which became famous for its small size and a record breaking opening for certain focal lengths.
During the 70’s, the OM system was well received by professional photographers, however, a few years later, the company failed to respond to a market that demanded systems autofocus . OM cameras were so stagnant in the 80’s and 90 SLR photography in 35mm was the preserve almost deprived of Nikon and Canon. During that time he specialized in manufacture Olympus compacts of high quality and refined design, however, left the brand professionals.
With the advent of digital photography , Olympus once again jump on the bandwagon of large chambers designed for great photographers. In 2001 launched the E-10, a digital 4- megapixel and anticipation of what would come two years later, in 2003 with the Four Thirds.
