Orkut Logo — Orkut is a social network promoted by Google since January 2004. The network is designed to enable its members to maintain their existing relationships and make new friends, business contacts and close relationships. You can create and maintain communities which grouped people according to their tastes and interests in different categories, among which are: activities, businesses, games, music, pets, religion, schools, food, sexual preference, and some more.

Until some time ago could only access this community those who received an invitation from someone who already belonged to it, that while the service remained in beta. The service has been designed by the current Turkish Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten who, to his former employer Affinity Engines have created a similar system called “InCircle” and communities, targeting college students.

In June 2004, Affinity Engines is suing Google because they believe that Orkut is based on the source code for InCircle. The indictment alleges that some errors in InCircle are also present in Orkut. Currently has available options, primarily to establish a chat with friends on stage stock and to advertising of any kind. Most users are from Brazil and India. Orkut is operated in Brazil for Google Brazil, due to the large number of users.

In the beginning was a network, mostly U.S., however, from 2004 until today, visitors have been accentuated in 2 countries: Brazil, which have grown exponentially and reaches 48% of total visits and India with 39.2%. It also highlights the majority of people between 13-25 years (over 50%), used to contact friends for a large majority (over 80%) and the single state (with about 40%).
