In 1864 Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought the brewery Haystack , located in the center of Amsterdam . Heineken started with 20 employees, and in its first year production increased from 2,100 to 5,000 barrels, moving to larger premises and modern city outside. Heineken began using a new method, called bottom-fermented, producing clearer beer and durable. On January 11, 2010 signed an agreement with the Mexican group FEMSA to acquire its beer industry, Cuauhtemo Moctezuma Brewery, one of the most important in Mexico . In contrast, the Mexican company gained control over 20% of the shares of Heineken.
