Smirnoff Logo — Smirnoff is a famous brand of liquor including the vodka, the Russian National Alcohol. The first Smirnov company was founded in Moscow in 1860 by Piotr Smirnov Arsenyevich. His distillery is the first worldwide to use the charcoal during the filtering process. In 1886 he received the title of unofficial supplier of the Russian court.
The founder Piotr Smirnov died in 1910 and his son, Vladimir, succeeded him as head of the company. The company develops and produces over 4 million cases of vodka per year. In 1917, during the Bolshevik Revolution, the distillery was confiscated and the family must flee. Vladimir Smirnov recreates a distillery in Istanbul in 1920. Four years later he moved to Lwów and started selling his vodka by the French name “Smirnoff.” The new product is a success, and in the late 1930s, it is exported in most European countries. A second distillery was founded in Paris in 1925. More
