On March 27th of 2006 , Air New Zealand embarked on a conversion to a new idendidad of brand , including a new uniform designed by Zambesi, a new logo , new color scheme and a new look at the sales booth and lounges . The new uniforms are characterized by a color palette that reflects the green pounamu , the color teal and slate of New Zealand, heaven and earth (a motif Maori created by Derek Lardelli) fabric from merino wool and curves inspired by the koru. A green stone replaced the hitherto blue Pacific Wave, inspired by the color of pounamu, the precious gem found in New Zealand . The Air New Zealand Koru is stamped on all signals, and products from New Zealand.

The symbol Maori in the tail of Air New Zealand is known as the koru . It is a stylized representation of a leaf of a fern spread and means new life, growth and renewal. The koru was used in the bows of the first Polynesian canoes that sailed in the Pacific among its many islands. The koru was first applied on the tail of an Air New Zealand with the arrival of the DC-10 in 1973 and has remained ever since. The actual printing of the planes was adopted in 1997 . The koru also appears on the flag that flies Air New Zealand and international airports such as Los Angeles International Airport . On March 21 of 2006 revealed the new logo. This logo was introduced in all advertising, signage and parking, along with all aircraft.

A special printing an image characterized by members of the All Blacks Carl Hoeft , Anton Oliver and Kees Meeuws was used in the plane that took in the Rugby World Cup in 1999 . In 2002 and 2003 Air New Zealand underlined his position as “the official airline of the Middle Earth »decorating three planes with images from The Lord of the Rings , applied as decals giants (though the film was as thin as clear plastic, decals weighing over 60 kg). The stickers representing actors Lord of the Rings against the background of New Zealand locations used in movies.
