EchoStar Satellite LLC was founded in 1980 by Charles Ergen, his wife Candy, and his friend Jim DeFranco, as a distributor of equipment for satellite television. Was officially relaunched as EchoStar DISH Network in March 1996. This revival came after the successful launch of its first satellite, EchoStar I, in December 1995 and marked the beginning of television services subscription offered by the company. Since then, the company has launched numerous satellites, with 14 satellites in its own fleet leased from April 2011.
From January 2008, DISH Network EchoStar commercially separated, making each company a separate entity. EchoStar is the technology partner of Dish Network, which focuses solely on marketing and providing satellite television services. Since June 20th of 2011, Joseph Clayton has had daily control of the company.
From 2011, the company competes primarily with rival in the world of satellite TV, DirecTV, as well as providers of cable television, but the development of fiber optic lines by telecommunications companies has greatly increased competition for company. The company is a Fortune 500. The company plans to diversify in video streaming and mobile Internet service.
