His son, James Hennessy, expanded the business to include production of cognac. The business renamed James (or Jacques) Hennessy & Co., the name the company retains today. Successive generations of Hennessy have led the company (now the eighth generation). However, the property has changed over the years. In 1971 Hennessy merged with Moët & Chandon. Then in 1987 the drinks group merged with fashion house Louis Vuitton to create what is now the business of luxury goods world’s largest: LVMH.

Hennessy currently sells about three million cases of cognac each year. Recent innovations include the attempt to broaden the appeal of the drink beyond its traditional use. For example, the company has introduced new products such as “Pure White” and “Fine de Cognac”. They have also been introduced to the market new cocktail recipes, as Hennessy combined with the energy drink Red Bull to form “Crunk Juice”, a cocktail popularized by musical artists such as Lil Jon and Ying Yang Twins.
