A&W began in 1919 in Lodi, California, when Roy Allen partnered with Frank Wright to help with the business of ‘root beer’ that had begun in that year. Their products are marked with A & W Root Beer by the surnames of their owners. Two years later, Allen bought out Wright and began franchising of their product.
