Comedy Central Logo – Comedy Central is channel TV American cable. Later, under the same name broadcast channels in the UK, Ireland and Germany and Latin America. As its name implies, the channel carries predominantly the program of comedy , both the original, as the accused. Beginning as one of the least watched cable channels in recent years became one of the most popular channels of comedy, winning praise from many media and the press. Comedy Central is owned by MTV Networks , a subsidiary of Viacom . In Spain, Viacom has adapted the format of the channel under the name Paramount Comedy .

In November 1989 , Time Warner , owners of HBO , The Comedy Channel launched as the first channel based only true comedy . Five months later, Viacom (owner of channels such as MTV , Nickelodeon , VH1 , among others) launched its competition for comedy channels. The channel is called HA! After two years of limited distribution, by 1 April 1991 sought to combine these two channels and create one called CTV: The Comedy Network. But the brand was already registered, was named a Canadian network CTV . Then instituted as name Comedy Central .

Back in April of 2003 , Viacom decided to buy fully Comedy Central (the actions and budgets were split between Viacom and Time Warner) by 1,225 million dollars. Currently, Comedy Central is part of MTV Networks , a subsidiary of Viacom . The years 1980 to mid 90’s most of the programs broadcast by Comedy Central shows were comedies and comedians. A remarkable early success was the series Politically Incorrect ( Politically Incorrect ) Bill Maher. Thus, people who requested that Comedy Central be added to their cable systems increased, and the presence of the channel in the houses was 50% for the year 1998 .

The success of South Park with adult content, pushed the network to transmit more programs for adults. Every Saturday at midnight, showed (and shows) a movie or special adult sitcom. The films to be transmitted every Saturday were a secret, called the “Secret Stash” . Movies and comedies at the Secret Stash transmitted are those with a lot of adult content. Some of the programs that passed through that section were: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut , Bad Santa , Jackass: The Movie , Clerks , and others.

Comedy Central also included a daily show called “The Satirical Time” , which showed the false news. was a program that mocked the media and politics. Since 2003 , Comedy Central has created a tradition of comedy, called ” New York Friars Club Roasts ” In late 2004 , the most watched comedy shows on Comedy Central were: South Park , Chappelle’s Show , The Daily Show and Reno 911! .
