Dropbox Logo — Dropbox is a file hosting service platform in the cloud, operated by the company Dropbox. The service allows users to store and sync files online and between computers and share files and folders with others. There are free and paid versions, each of which with various options.
Dropbox Client allows users to leave any file to a designated folder. That file is synchronized in the cloud and in all other Dropbox client computers. Files in the Dropbox folder may then be shared with other Dropbox users or be accessed from the Dropbox website. Also, users can save files manually through a web browser.
While Dropbox functions as a storage service, focuses on sync and share files, and a system which also allows it through usb. It supports revision history, so that files deleted from the Dropbox folder can be recovered from any computer synchronized. There is also the functionality to know the history of a file you are working, allowing a person can edit and upload files without danger of losing to previous versions.
The history of the files is limited to a period of 30 days, although there is a paid version that offers unlimited history. The record uses technology delta encoding. To conserve bandwidth and time, if a file into a Dropbox folder of a user is changed, Dropbox only uploads the file shares that are exchanged when synchronizing. Although the desktop client has no restrictions on the size of the files, files loaded through the website are limited to a maximum of 300 MB each. Dropbox uses the S3 storage Amazon to save the files and SoftLayer Technologies for support infrastructure.
