Led by local businessman Jimmy Hewitt and former general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers Pat Williams, the Magic hired Matt Guokas as head coach in franchise history. Comprised of players like Reggie Theus, Scott Skiles (now coach of Milwaukee Bucks), Terry Catledge, Sam Vincent, Otis Smith (now general manager of the Magic) and Jerry Reynolds, the team achieved a balance of 18-64 in his first season in the league.
