The magazine is published monthly and its main content is the glamor photography. It also features interviews with prominent public figures such as artists, architects, economists, composers, conductors, film directors, journalists, novelists, playwrights, religious figures, politicians, athletes and race car drivers. The magazine throughout its history has expressed a view libertarian with political and social issues.

Given the success of Playboy in the mid-1970s came other content magazines pornographic, highlighting main rival magazine Penthouse. It is currently the best selling adult magazine in the United States with a circulation of 3 million copies a month.
