The CONCACAF was founded in its present form September 18, 1961 in Mexico City by the merger of the NAFC and CCCF, and became one of six continental confederations affiliated with FIFA. Its main administrative functions are to organize national team competitions and clubs, and for conducting qualifying tournaments for the World Cup.
