Statoil Logo — The company Norwegian of oil Statoil, established in 1972, is the largest company in its country with about 17,000 employees. While Statoil figure listed on the Stock Exchange of New York, the Norwegian state still retains most of its property. The head office is located in the oil capital of Norway, Stavanger.
One of the largest suppliers of crude oil in the world and a major supplier of natural gas to the European continent, Statoil also operates about 2,000 service stations in 9 countries. The chief executive officer since mid- 2004 onwards is Helge Lund, former chief executive of Aker Kvaerner. In 2006 Statoil signed a purchase agreement with the company Norsk Hydro, Norway’s also dedicated to oil and natural gas. On October 1 of 2007 merged the two companies to be renamed StatoilHydro, the new company resulting from the merger is the world’s largest offshore oil.
